Mumbai’s public transport is basically reliant on the bus system which is managed by BEST. They house more than 750+ buses which run on 350+ routes in and around Mumbai. Apart from BEST, privately owned buses provide their services to educational institutions and various companies which do distribute the population among public and private transport and ease of access.
Apart from buses, Mumbai is connected with railways through Western, Central and Harbor Railways and also have local railways for inter-city travel. Majority of the railways travel through Mumbai which gives people a chance to board and get down from trains at Dadar in order to reach their destination without any hassle. Mumbai has one international airport which is at Santacruz East that connects to every metro and major cities around the world making it a valuable hub for various sectors to reach and serve their potential audience.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is the civic body responsible for local government. It comprises two branches, the executive branch headed by the Municipal Commissioner, an IAS officer appointed by the Government of Maharashtra, and an elected deliberative branch, the general body, headed by the Mayor of Mumbai. Municipal elections are held every five years to elect councillors, commonly known as “corporators”, who form the general body. The Standing Committee and the ward committees are in charge of financial approvals.
