Banashankari is strategically located in South of Bangalore which has gained its name from the Banashankari Amma Temple (situated on Kanakapura Road). In 1915 the temple was constructed by Subramanya Shetty. Every year, 3 different ceremonies are held in the temple yearly. The first ceremony is held on 13th September which is the birth anniversary of Banashankari Amma.
It is the only region which has all the probable divisions, viz: Stage, Phase and Block. It has 6 different Stages which are further distinguished. The first three stages were developed bit early while the remaining three, viz: 4th, 5th & 6th Stages thrived in early 2000s by BDA between Hosakerehalli and Rajarajeshwari Nagar.
The Banashankari 1st Stage is one of the oldest area which is known for its Ramanjaneya Temple and Kumara Swamy Devasthana. The Banashankari 2nd Stage (Karesandra, Yarab Nagar, Kaveri Nagar, Kadirenahalli) is the main Commercial space of Banashankari and is a cosmopolitan area. The Banashankari 3rd Stage (Hosakerehalli, Kathriguppe) is a comparatively a neoteric area which is branched into 3 Phase and 9 Blocks.
Banashankari stretches from Mysore Road to Kanakapura Road and surrounded by Jayanagar & J.P Nagar in the East, Girinagar & Rajarajeshwari Nagar in the West, Basavangudi in the North and Padmanabhangar, Kumaraswamy Layput & Uttarahalli in the South. It is a residential region yet there are a few Software Companies namely Elevation Media Services and Bangalore Softsell Limited.
The region has many well-known commercial spaces and the area Kathriguppe is the main commercial area. It has Big Bazar which is supposed to be the 1st of its kind in the South Bangalore. The area developed slowly due to the Outer Ring Road. The region also has Food World, Subhiksha, Reliance Fresh, Spencer’s Express, Subhiksha Trading Services and lots more. The region also possesses one of the biggest BMTC Bus Depot.

Some of them include BNM Institute of Technology, NSVK College, Sushrutha Institute Of Nursing, Institute Of Business Management & Technology and many more. There are many Hospitals which provides the medical assistance to the residents. The hospitals include Sevakshetra Hospital, Sunetra Eye Hospital, Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences and Vittala International Institute of Ophthalmology.
The region has two popular theaters, viz: Chowdeshwari Theater and Suchitra Rama Theater. There are some good restaurants and eateries like My Tea House restaurant, Keralite, Mughlai, Multi-cuisine, Beijing Bites & Chung Wah.
The region is well developed and is easily accessible from the major destinations of the city. It is connected by the Road ways and recently the Metro line linking the prime localities is being constructed. It is barely 8.1 km from Kempegowda Bus Station (Majestic Station) and 7.7 km from Bangalore City Railway Station via Mysore Road. Further, Bangalore International Airport is only 45 km.
